I’m a sucker for nature

Ik blijf het een wonder vinden: dat zoiets stokkigs als een boom zoiets fragiels, kleurigs en bloemigs kan voortbrengen als bloesem. Dat er buiten, tussen het kale winterskelet, knalroze en witte vlekken ontstaan. En dat het, na een windvlaag, bloesemblaadjes regent. Zodat niet alleen de lucht, maar ook de grond zachtroze kleurt. Dat dat ieder jaar weer ontluikt, zonder dat we daar ook maar iets voor hoeven doen, dat blijf ik wonderbaarlijk vinden.

Isn’t it astonishing? That something ‘woody’ and static like a tree can produce something so fragile, colourful and flowery like blossom? I love those bright pink and white spots that slowly appear between the brown, leafeless trees outside. And that, when the wind picks up, the ground gets covered in a carpet of blossom leaves. This wondreus awakening of nature, that we may witness each and every year, is a true miracle to me.

Spring in London

Voordat onze dochter geboren wordt, willen we heel Europa nog even gezien hebben. Tenminste, daar lijkt het nu op denk ik, haha! We waren een weekend in Londen, waar het net als in Nederland Zwaar Lente was. Met blauwe luchten en bloesem en warmte en de hele santenkraam. Vorig jaar rond deze tijd zaten we nog tot onze nek in de kou en het winterweer. Het lijkt wel alsof ik door mijn zwangerschap veel meer behoefte heb aan (zon)licht. Dus deze vroege lente komt als geroepen.

Before our daughter is born, we want to see all the big cities of Europe..at least, that’s what it looks like now, doesn’t it, haha! We spent the weekend in London, where it was Spring with a capital S (but wait, don’t you English native speakers already write the names of the seasons with a capital letter?). We had blue skies, trees in full bloom, warmth…the whole shabam. Last year ‘round this time we we were still up to our necks in Winter. I have had a huge need for (sun)light since I am expecting, more than I’ve ever had before. So this early Spring is both timely and extremely welcome.
